There is an interesting judgment on state aid given by Hickinbottom J. last week (R (Sky Blue Sports) v Coventry City Council [2014] EWHC 2089 (Admin).) The case concerned a loan of over £14 million made by Coventry City Council to a company called Arena Coventry Limited the leaseholder of the Rioch Arena in Coventry and which is 50% owned by the Council. The Arena was until recently the home of Coventry City FC and the judicial review was brought by its owners. One of the allegations being that the loan was unlawful State aid.
