A planning inspector allowed an appeal today against the refusal of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for a student accommodation scheme in Mile End, London.
The scheme includes 106 bedroom units of purpose-built student housing accommodation (PBSA), and commercial space at the ground floor level.
The Inspector found that the scheme would make a valuable contribution to student housing provision close to a number of higher education institutions, in an area where there is high demand for housing provision in general. She also found that the scheme would involve the redevelopment of a brownfield site in an area which is well connected in terms of public transport and is close to local amenities and facilities.
Zack Simons acted for the successful appellant, Southern Grove, instructed by David Maddox of Maddox Planning and Jade Chalmers of Howard Kennedy LLP.
