Permission granted for 200 new homes in Chichester District

Housing and Greenbelt

Following an 11-day inquiry, planning Inspector Christina Downes has allowed two linked appeals for a total of 200 new homes on greenfield sites in the setting of the Chichester Harbour AONB. Despite finding conflict with the development plan when taken as a whole, the Inspector concluded that other material considerations indicated that the decision should be made otherwise than in accordance with that plan. Most important of these being the NPPF’s presumption in favour of sustainable development, engaged in this case due to Chichester District Council’s inability to demonstrate a 5 year housing land supply.

The decision letter may be accessed here.

Sasha White KC and Kimberley Ziya acted for the successful Appellant, Pallant Homes, instructed by Neame Sutton.

Stephen Morgan acted for Chichester District Council.
