Alex Goodman KC acted in a case handed down today for a woman and her one-year-old daughter who have been denied recourse to public funds and reduced to destitution.
As a result of this test case, the Home Office has published a new policy instruction setting out the circumstances in which NRPF conditions will be lifted for those in the UK on student leave or as dependants of students. Previously, all students coming to the UK (650,000 last year) were prohibited from accessing the benefits system. The Claimants have also been allowed recourse to public funds.
The case is the latest in a sequence of dozens of cases on NRPF since 2018 in which Alex Goodman KC has been instructed by DPG, including two successful cases in the Divisional Court and five substantial successes in the High Court. Alex was instructed by Adam Hundt at Deighton Peirce Glynn and led Ben Amunwa.
The judgment of Saini J handed down today and appending the new policy is here.
