When Two Become One

Landmark Chambers would like to extend its thanks to the Property Litigation Team at Herbert Smith Freehills who helped Evie Barden and Joel Semakula - on a pro bono basis - represent a vulnerable client to trial in an undue influence / consumer credit act mortgage possession case.

Unable to qualify for legal aid, the client initially approached Advocate for urgent assistance as he was at imminent risk of losing his home.

Joel Semakula was instructed by Advocate for the PTR. Just two weeks before the main hearing, Evie Barden and Herbert Smith Freehills came on board to act in the trial. With the team’s joint efforts, the final outcome was one which avoided the loss of the client’s home and enabled him to bring an end to this long running litigation saga.
