The Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Select Committee has recently completed an exhaustive report into “Exempt Accommodation” in England (a form of supported housing). It found significant abuses both of public funds via housing benefit claims and of vulnerable residents. The report can be found here.
Bob Blackman MP, working with Crisis, has introduced a Bill designed to tackle these abuses. The Bill was written for him by Justin Bates and Joe Thomas. In light of positive comments made by the Secretary of State on the weekend politics TV shows, it seems likely that the Bill will receive government support.
Justin will be giving evidence about the Bill to the Select Committee on 9 November 2022.
