Divisional Court hears Cabinet Office challenge to the UK Covid-19 Inquiry

On 30.06.23, the Divisional Court (Dingemans LJ and Garnham J) heard argument in the Cabinet Office’s challenge to the decision of the Chair of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry to require the disclosure of various documents (in particular unredacted WhatsApp messages and notebooks) to the Inquiry.  The claim has generated significant media attention: see here, here and here.  The Court reserved judgment.

The Cabinet Office was represented by Sir James Eadie KC, the Chair of the UK Covid Inquiry by Hugo Keith KC and The Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson by Lord Pannick KC.
