Barney McCay in River Action challenge to industrial chicken unit near the River Severn

LC news card pattern 2

This week, the High Court is hearing a judicial review of Shropshire Council’s decision to grant consent for an industrial-scale poultry unit. The farm will house up to 200,000 chickens.

The claimant, who is a member of the environmental campaign group River Action, is challenging the consent on the basis that the council failed to adequately assess the impact of phosphate and nitrate pollution, caused by chicken manure, on the River Severn and the wider environment.

The case has been covered widely in the press, including the Guardian and BBC.

Barney McCay acts for the claimant, with David Wolfe KC (Matrix) and Pete Lockley (11KBW), and is instructed by Ricardo Gama, Carol Day and Julia Eriksen (Leigh Day).
