ALEX GOODMAN 9295

Alex Goodman was today awarded Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Outstanding Achievement 2021 with Adam Hundt of Deighton Peirce Glynn for their work challenging “no recourse to public funds” conditions. Last year Alex was instructed by DPG for the Claimant in a successful challenge in the Divisional Court to the Home Office scheme prohibiting hundreds of thousands of migrants and their children from recourse to public funds. The Court held in R (on the application of W (A Child) v SSHD [2020] 1 W.L.R. 4420 that the scheme breached the “law of humanity” and article 3 ECHR. This year, Alex acted for the Claimants in a successful challenge to the revised scheme before the Divisional Court in R (ST and VW) v SSHD [2021] EWHC 1085 on grounds that the scheme failed to comply with the duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
