John Male QC was called to the Bar in 1976 and took silk in 2000. He specialises in the fields of property law, planning and compulsory purchase.

Property Litigation

He is experienced in all aspects of property litigation particularly landlord and tenant where he deals regularly with issues concerning business tenancies and rent reviews. It is an area where John is said to “excel” (Legal 500, 2014). He has extensive experience regarding landlord and tenant litigation in Courts and tribunals at all levels. He has been involved in many major contested rent review arbitrations. He has appeared regularly at public inquiries concerning planning, compulsory purchase and highways.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

In recent years much of John’s time has been devoted to dispute resolution in property and planning cases, particularly those involving valuation issues, acting as an arbitrator, independent expert or mediator. Also, he has sat as a village green Inspector. He sits in the County Court as a Recorder trying civil cases and as a Deputy High Court Judge in the Chancery Division.
