The Secretary of State for Transport has granted development consent for the expansion of the Port of Tilbury through the construction of a new “roll-on roll-off” terminal and construction materials and aggregates terminal, with related storage facilities and new road and rail links.

The Port of Tilbury (Expansion) Order 2019 would authorise the extension of existing jetty facilities and dredging of new berths, together with extensive landward development on the site of a former power station. The Examination dealt with a number of significant issues, including in respect of the impacts on brownfield ecology, and the effect on Tilbury Fort, a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The decision letter, Examining Authority’s report, and Order are available here . See also press coverage here and here.

Richard Turney acted for Port of Tilbury London Limited, instructed by Pinsent Masons LLP, and appeared at a number of examination hearings.
