The inquiry into Roxhill Developments Limited’s proposed Strategic Railfreight Interchange at Slade Green opens today. The project is being promoted through the 1990 Act procedure and consent is sought for a railhead and around 185,000 sq m of rail served warehousing, occupying some 57.4ha of land currently designated as Green Belt. The proposals are opposed by the Mayor of London (who also directed refusal by Bexley BC, in whose area the majority of the scheme would lie), and Dartford BC, as well as some local groups. The inquiry is expected to last for 5 to 6 weeks and is programmed to conclude in September. The Secretary of State will make the decision on whether to grant permission. Rupert Warren QC is appearing for Roxhill, Dan Kolinsky QC is appearing for the Mayor of London and Tim Mould QC and Hannah Gibbs are appearing for Dartford BC.
