The Secretary of State has granted planning permission for the construction of a million square feet of B8 warehousing employment floorspace in the St Helens Green Belt, on an application called-in for his determination. The Secretary of State, agreeing with his Inspector, found that the harm to the Green Belt was clearly outweighed by the benefits of the proposal and that very special circumstances existed. The benefits were primarily economic benefits relating to the need for this type of development and support for a strong competitive economy. The full decision can be found here. Sasha White QC and Anjoli Foster acted for the successful applicants.
