Inquiry into Northern Ireland’s largest proposed windfarm

The inquiry into what will be Northern Ireland’s largest windfarm, if permitted, at Doraville in the Sperrins, concluded yesterday after 4 days of hearings, last week in Omagh and this week in Magherafelt, before the Planning Appeals Commission (Commissioner Julie de Courcey). The proposal by SSE is for 33 wind turbines which will include significant benefits in terms of reduction in carbon emissions, contribution to NI’s renewable energy, and restoration of areas of bog. More information about SSE can be found here. The inquiry was into a project of regional significance under s. 26 of the Planning (Northern Ireland) Act 2011.
