On Tuesday 10 March, a four-day public inquiry commenced concerning the Queens Hotel, Church Road, Upper Norwood. The inquiry follows an appeal by London Crystal Palace Ltd against a decision by the London Borough of Croydon to refuse the discharge of occupation restrictions contained in a section 106 planning agreement for the hotel.
Under the agreement, guest stays at the hotel are capped at 90 days. The appellant is seeking to have these restrictions removed.
At present, the Queens Hotel is being used as contingency accommodation for asylum seekers.
Joel Semakula is acting for the London Borough of Croydon.
