Phase 2 of the Southport Inquiry Begins

Phase 2 of the Southport Inquiry, chaired by Sir Adrian Fulford, formally began on 8 July 2026.

Phase 2 will examine:

the adequacy of current arrangements for identifying and managing individuals fixated on violence;
the role of the internet and social media in influencing and enabling such individuals;
the effectiveness of current laws and systems; and
the position in relation to the sale and possession of offensive weapons and articles with a point or blade;

in order to make recommendations to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
