Court of Appeal allows appeal in Holborn Studios…

The Court of Appeal has allowed the developer's appeal in the long-running litigation concerning the proposed redevelopment of Holborn Studios, bringing to an end an 11-year planning dispute that began with the first planning application in 2015.

The case has been one of the most prominent planning disputes of recent years. Over the course of the litigation, there have been two grants of planning permission, two successful High Court challenges, a five-week public inquiry involving four separate adjournments, and a further challenge under section 288 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

The most recent planning permission was quashed by the High Court following a successful statutory challenge. The developer appealed that decision, and the Court of Appeal has now allowed the appeal, restoring the planning permission and bringing the litigation to a final conclusion in the developer's favour.

The Court of Appeal's decision marks the conclusion of a planning dispute that has spanned more than a decade and involved multiple planning applications, court proceedings and a lengthy public inquiry.
