Landmark QC is Legal 500 Public Law 'Silk of the Year' for 2020

David Lock new colour

Landmark Chambers is delighted that Legal 500 has announced that David Lock QC will be named its Public Law ‘Silk of the Year’ at the UK 2020 awards. David leads Landmark Chambers’ Public Law practice group and has a busy public law practice covering health, social care and governance matters. Over the past year he has worked on a series of high profile cases, including acting for the NHS in seeking to use Avastin “off-label” for NHS patients to save the NHS £100m per year in the Court of Appeal last month, as lead counsel for the parents in the case of Tafida Raqeeb, a child on life support whose parents wished to take her abroad for treatment, and as counsel for hundreds of victims in the Infected Blood Inquiry into the contaminated blood scandal of the 1970s and 80s. David’s broad practice encompasses a wide variety of areas of public law.  He has had a diverse career, serving as an MP, minister, local councillor and has chaired major public bodies.  David was recently appointed as a Deputy High Court Judge to sit in both the Queen’s Bench and Family Divisions and has been approved to sit in the Administrative Court, for a fixed four year term. Chief Executive Paul Newhall said: “This is excellent news and we are extremely proud of David’s accomplishments, as well as those of the wider Public law team at Landmark.  Over the past year, we have seen significant growth in this practice area and have welcomed several new members to the team.  We look forward to building further on this success in 2020 and beyond.” David Lock QC commented: “I am touched by this award as it is the judgement of my fellow lawyers. However I am conscious that public law cases are a product of teamwork, not a solo effort by the QC.  I have the privilege of working with fantastic solicitors, brilliant juniors and often have enormous levels of input from dedicated clients. The public law team here at Landmark is second to none – from QCs through to juniors and our amazing clerks.  I feel that this award is some recognition of the total professionalism of everyone in the Landmark public law team”. The Legal 500 awards recognise the leading law firms, chambers, barristers, in-house lawyers, business leaders and general counsel operating within the UK market.
