Overview
Members of Chambers have advised in relation to the current national Green Belt policy in the NPPF and its interrelationship with other parts of national policy. They also advised the government on the introduction of grey belt in 2024.
Members have also been involved in many of the Court cases which define the meaning of Green Belt policy, for instance Compton Parish Council (exceptional circumstances), Keep Bourne End Green (Local Plan challenges), Link Park (purposes of the Green Belt), Mole Valley (no harm arising from appropriate development) and Wrotham Parish Council (interpretation of grey belt and footnote 7).
Experience includes advising and representing clients in relation to major Green Belt release through the local plan system and in relation to major Green Belt sites through the planning application and appeal process. Examples include the residential-led extensions to Oxford in both Cherwell and South Oxfordshire, logistics around London and Birmingham, and urban extensions in most of the country’s designated Green Belts.
