Judicial Review Moot Competition 2026 - 2027: First Round

Overview

Landmark Chambers' annual Judicial Review Moot Competition introduces aspiring barristers to the principles of Judicial Review through a Planning and Environmental law problem, providing an opportunity to develop advocacy skills while gaining valuable insight into practice at the Planning and Environmental Bar.

Bringing together competitors from universities across the UK, the competition offers a unique opportunity to consider Planning and Environmental law within a Public law context while experiencing life at one of the country's leading Public law sets.

Over the past eight years, competitors studying the LLB, LLM, GDL and BPC have participated from more than 50 universities, appearing before Landmark barristers with expertise across Planning, Environmental and Public law.

What to Expect

The first round of the competition will take place in person at Landmark Chambers on Saturday 21 November 2026.

Throughout the morning, competitors will develop their legal research, drafting and oral advocacy skills by presenting arguments in a judicial review moot before members of Chambers. In addition to the moots themselves, participants will:

  • attend a Planning and Environmental law workshop led by members of Landmark's Planning and Environmental Teams;
  • learn more about life at Landmark Chambers and practice at the Planning and Environmental Bar; and
  • meet members of our Pupillage Committee to ask questions about the pupillage application process and the structure of pupillage.

No prior knowledge of Planning or Environmental law is required to take part. Whilst the moot problems are grounded in Judicial Review, we recognise that many competitors will be encountering Planning and Environmental law for the first time. The competition has therefore been designed with this in mind and competitors will be provided with supporting resources, including sample skeleton arguments, to assist them in preparing for the moot.

Entering a Team

The competition is open to students studying the LLB, LLM, GDL and BPC.

Universities wishing to participate should register by Monday 19 October 2026 by emailing judicialreviewmoot@landmarkchambers.co.uk.

As we are only able to accept one team from each university, we would be grateful if registrations could be submitted by a member of faculty or the individual responsible for organising external mooting competitions.
