CHRISTOPHER LOCKHART MUMMERY 7714

Christopher Lockhart-Mummery QC is retiring after 50 years at the Bar. During his half century as one of the country’s leading planning lawyers, Christopher has appeared in numerous cases and inquiries of national significance. In recent years he has focused on planning work in both the public and private sectors including acting for both developers and local authorities in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court and Planning Inquiries. Christopher was called to the Bar in 1971 and took silk in 1986. He became Head of Chambers at 4 Breams Buildings in 1993 and served as Head of Chambers at Landmark following the merger of the two sets until 2003. A former Deputy High Court Judge and a Recorder, Christopher is frequently cited in the Legal Directories. In the most recent editions, clients said: “A doyen of the Planning Bar whose submissions are always well received.” “He’s a really powerful planning lawyer who can get into the nuts and bolts of cases.” “He provides quick, commercial advice.” (Chambers & Partners, 2021) “He quickly identifies the key issues in a dispute and brings a laser-like focus to them, not allowing himself or the team to be distracted by points that are not critical to winning the case. It is this that sets him apart from many members of the planning bar.” (Legal 500, 2021) Landmark’s joint Head of Chambers, Reuben Taylor QC, said: “Christopher’s illustrious career speaks for itself. His contribution both to planning law and to the development of chambers is truly significant. All of us at Landmark are indebted to him for his words of wisdom, help and encouragement over many years at the Bar. His knowledge of the law and deep-seated commitment to the wellbeing of chambers has been of great value to his colleagues here and we wish him all the best for a well-earned and happy retirement.” Christopher adds: “I have been hugely fortunate to have the support of friends and staff of Landmark (and its predecessors) throughout my career. I am completely confident that Landmark, with its unique strengths, will continue to flourish in the interesting times ahead”. Christopher becomes an Associate Member of Landmark Chambers with immediate effect.
