Ashley Underwood practices principally in three areas – property, public law and human rights, and public inquiries. His regular clients include local authorities, central government departments, and property developers. His work extends from drafting, through advising, acting in mediations, to advocacy in the higher courts.
Ashley Underwood regularly advises and acts for property developers, including national house-builders and those involved in large commercial developments. In addition he is a recognised expert on public sector tenancies, having appeared in many of the leading cases in this field, in the Court of Appeal, House of Lords and the Supreme Court. When a junior, Ashley Underwood was on the Attorney General’s panel of Counsel for public law work, and as a QC has continued to be instructed by central and local government. He holds developed-vetted security clearance and is on the Attorney General’s list of Special Advocates. He has appeared in a large number of leading human rights cases. Ashley Underwood was appointed as Leading Counsel to two important public inquiries, one of which is continuing. Ashley took silk in 2001. Prior to that he was on the Supplementary Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown.
In January 2009 Ashley was appointed as a Bencher at Grays Inn.
