Practice Summary
Andrew was called to the bar in Australia in 1997 (admitted as a barrister and solicitor) and in 2010 by Lincoln’s Inn. Prior to being called by Lincoln’s Inn, Andrew was a senior public law solicitor at the Treasury Solicitor’s Department and, before that, worked for the US law firm Paul Hastings LLP both in London and in the U.S. He joined Landmark Chambers in September 2011 after successfully completing his pupillage at Landmark. His pupil supervisors were Rupert Warren, James Maurici, Tom Weekes and Camilla Lamont.
Andrew accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work.
Planning & Environmental law
During his pupillage, Andrew gained experience in a broad range of planning and environmental matters. As a pupil to Rupert Warren, he attended a number of planning inquiries relating to retail and residential matters and gained experience in advisory work in these areas. Andrew also gained experience in planning enforcement matters. While sitting with James Maurici, Andrew gained experience in environmental judicial review and advisory matters, including in relation to Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment matters. Andrew has recently assisted William Hicks QC in relation to an inquiry for a large mixed use retail scheme.
Property
Andrew has appeared in a number of county court matters relating to landlord and tenant proceedings. He also saw a broad spectrum of property matters during his two property seats with Tom Weekes and then Camilla Lamont. He is able to advise on all aspects of property law and landlord and tenant disputes including possession actions, easements, restrictive covenants, disrepair and service charges.
Public
As a senior public law solicitor at the Treasury Solicitor’s Department, Andrew undertook a wide range of public law work, and has particular experience in immigration law. This includes advising on, and drafting grounds for, all types of immigration cases. During his time at the Treasury Solicitor’s Department, Andrew was responsible for a large number of country guidance, test, and high profile cases from the First Tier Tribunal up to the Supreme Court. As a pupil, Andrew gained experience in a range of public law matters relating to planning, environmental law, social security as well as more general public law matters.
Andrew graduated with a LLB from the University of Western Australia in 1996. In 2003, he completed a masters in law (LLM) at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
He qualified as a barrister and solicitor in Australia in 1997 and as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2004. Prior to switching to the bar, Andrew was a senior public law solicitor at the Treasury Solicitor’s Department and, before that, worked for the US law firm Paul Hastings LLP both in London and in the U.S.
