Vaulting ambition: The problems with the Waste Framework Directive 2008 >> Gwion Lewis Much criticized for its complexity, EU waste law has long been in need of a revamp. Last December, the European Parliament and Council said that they had the answer when they signed off the new Waste Framework Directive. Five months on, however, an article in the Journal of Environmental Law (OUP) claims that, far from “clarifying and rationalizing” EU waste law, the Directive is being undermined by the fact that it is trying to do too much at once. The author of the article, Eloise Scotford, a Fellow in Law at Corpus Christi, Oxford, and a member of the Centre’s Academic Panel, recently joined Gwion Lewis at Landmark Chambers to put her case.
