CJEU Grand Chamber opens legal year with hearing on Dublin III Regulation

DATE: 07 Sep 2018

The CJEU Grand Chamber opened its legal year on 4 September 2018 with an important hearing on the Dublin III Regulation in Joined Cases C-582/17 and C-583/17 H and R. Both cases are references from the Dutch Rechtbank in Amsterdam concerning the determination of responsibility for the examination of international protection claims. The cases raised the fundamental question whether only one Member State may determination the question of responsibility under the Regulation, or whether more than one Member State may do so. As well as submissions from the applicant H and the European Commission, the Grand Chamber heard submissions from the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland and the Netherlands.

David Blundell represented the United Kingdom.
