Charles Banner appointed to the Joint Nature Conservation Committee

Following an open competition, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, in consultation with the devolved administrations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, has appointed Charles Banner as one of three new Independent Members of the Joint Nature Conservation Committee with effect from 15 December 2017. The appointment is for a 3 year term and on a 2 ½ days per month basis.  Charles will continue in full-time practice at the Bar alongside this role.

The JNCC is a non-departmental public body established by Part 2 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006. It advises the UK Government and the devolved administrations of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales on UK-wide and international nature conservation. Under Schedule 4 of the 2006 Act, its membership comprises of a Chairman and 5 independent members appointed by the Secretary of State, 2 members from each of Natural England, Natural Resources Wales and Scottish Natural Heritage (including the Chairman or Deputy Chairman of those organisations) and 2 members from Northern Ireland’s Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside (including the Chairman of the CNCC).
