Secretary of State confirms Peckham Rye Station CPO

DATE: 20 Jun 2017

Following an inquiry in January & February, on 19 June the Secretary of State confirmed Southwark LBC’s CPO of land in front of Peckham Rye Station in order to create a civic square and improve a key gateway into the town.

The Inspector and Secretary of State found that the Council’s £28.5m scheme would “immeasurably improve the setting of the Grade II listed station building, and vastly enhance the public realm in a busy and currently congested part of Peckham town centre”. They found that the scheme was “wholly in accordance with the adopted Development Plan” and that equalities issues had been addressed “in a thorough and fundamental way as part of the CPO and scheme design”.

Richard Moules promoted the CPO for Southwark.
