Kenneth William Males v Secretary of State for Education and Skills

DATE: 01 Jan 2006

Instructing Solicitor: Anna McLeod Treasury Solicitor Public Law & Tribunals Team.

This case, heard and decided in August 2007, is an example of the many cases in which Katherine is instructed in the Care Standards Tribunal.

Katherine has been Counsel for the Respondent in almost all of the 'List 99' appeals (involving those who have been judged by the Secretary of State to be unsuitable to work with children) heard in the CST. She also handles many Protection of Vulnerable Adults and Protection of Children Act cases and has extensively advised the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Department of Health in relation to the approach to be taken to these matters.

She is currently instructed in a High Court appeal which will determine whether the Secretary of State is obliged to disclose to an Appellant confidential advice given by the panel of experts appointed to assist him in List 99 cases (as per the system introduced by former Secretary of State Ruth Kelly).
