William (Bill) Hicks QC came to the Bar with the intention of specialising in planning. He was called in 1975 and took silk in 1995, and has been involved in a wide range of planning work for over 25 years.

Recent examples of environmental work include:

  • Resisting Judicial Review of a planning consent for employment uses by “Buglife”, who seek to establish that the effect on insect life had not been properly considered;
  • Promoting the remediation of a badly contaminated chemical factory and brickworks site for residential use;
  • Advising in relation to proposals for development in close proximity to gas holders which had been called in at the instigation of HSE;
  • Advising on a number of large underground gas storage proposals; and
  • Promoting a large regeneration project involving a World Heritage Site, listed buildings, land and sea based nature conservation issues, flooding, and sedimentation.
